The traditional gala dinner held by Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital for over ten years will take on a new format in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Gala \u2013 A Journey of Hope will share content related to science, health, gastronomy and music online with the institution\u2019s supporters. \u201cWe are going to bring together hearts of solidarity, who believe that together we are stronger, to overcome this adversity in the centenary history of Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe,\u201d explains the executive director of the Hospital, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe, this is the time to celebrate courage, hope, resilience, solidarity and so many other feelings that are making this challenging moment a little lighter. \u201cIt is this invitation that we offer to our supporters while launching the Gala 2020. We believe that this is the time to reframe our relationship with people, with our families, our employees and also with nature and consumption. More than ever, it is time to exercise empathy and solidarity. Together, we have an incredible power of transformation,\u201d emphasizes Ety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The institution\u2019s supporters will receive, in their email boxes, content commented by renowned experts in the areas of health, science, gastronomy and music. This event format was chosen because it allows each one to access the materials on the most convenient day and time according to their routine, whether in Brazil or abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As in previous editions, philanthropic investors Daniele Giacomazzi Behring and Amalia Spinardi Thompson Motta, and the event\u2019s sponsor, chef Claude Troisgros, are mobilized to engage their networks in this chain of good. \u201cWe don\u2019t know what is being the impact of the pandemic on the lives of our supporters. However, the contribution of each one of them is fundamental for us to be able to go through this difficult moment. That is why we are involved in this initiative, mobilizing our networks,\u201d emphasize Daniele and Amalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deficit<\/strong>
More than ever, Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe needs support, as the estimate is that the COVID-19 pandemic generates a deficit of US$ 3 million to US$ 4 million, which will add to the already existing gap of around US$ 9 million a year in health assistance and research, generated by the underfunding of the health and innovation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High prices for supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE) and medicines, the need to increase stocks and temporary interruption of elective surgeries are some of the causes of the problem. Added to this is the need for investments in research, including on COVID-19, to expand efforts for new discoveries and possibilities for immunization, treatment and cure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
