Pequeno Príncipe seeks support from society to equip new hospital unit

The day hospital, under construction on the Pequeno Príncipe North campus, will have a modern structure for outpatient care and less complex surgeries

The Pequeno Príncipe Complex is expanding its structure with the creation of Pequeno Príncipe North, an innovative campus that will bring together in the same space healthcare, teaching, research, culture, and environmental preservation. Installed in an area of almost 200,000 m², more than half of which consists of preserved green area, the project represents a legacy for future generations and reinforces the institution’s commitment to protecting childhood in all its dimensions.

Among the structures planned for this new campus is the day hospital, which will play a strategic role in pediatric care. The unit was designed to offer specialized care and less complex procedures in a modern, welcoming, and efficient environment. The day hospital will be a fundamental reinforcement to guarantee access for boys and girls from all over Brazil — especially from the Brazilian Public Health System (known as SUS) — to dignified and excellent care.

Modern structure to expand access

The day hospital will have six operating rooms, 36 beds, 12 consulting rooms, 12 infusion therapy beds, and eight post-anesthesia recovery beds. The expectation is to carry out up to 18,000 specialized consultations and 4,500 low-complexity surgical procedures per year. This additional capacity will relieve the central hospital, which today is the headquarters of Pequeno Príncipe, improving care flows, ensuring greater efficiency and reception of families, and, in the long run, increasing assistance capacity.

Every minute counts, every support transforms

Brazil is experiencing a worrying situation in pediatric health: between 2010 and 2023, there was a 28% reduction in the number of pediatric beds, an index that surpasses the decline in the population in this age group. At the same time, the complexity of the cases arriving at Pequeno Príncipe increases each year. In 2024 alone, more than 259,000 outpatient visits, 20,000 surgical procedures, and 293 transplants were carried out. More than 60% of the care was provided to SUS patients.

Faced with this scenario, the Hospital developed the Espaço Pronto project — For the Health of Children and Adolescents, which seeks to mobilize society to equip the new day hospital. The total planned investment is US$ 25.8 million, of which US$ 14 million have already been raised thanks to partnerships with the Paraná State Department of Health and Itaipu Binacional. About US$ 11.8 million still remain to be raised, funds essential for the purchase of more than 2,600 items including medical-hospital equipment, furniture, technology, and supplies.

Invitation to society

Recognized as a hospital of excellence by the Ministry of Health and the best hospital for pediatrics in Latin America by the ranking of the American magazine Newsweek, Pequeno Príncipe reaffirms with this project its philanthropic vocation and its commitment to equity.

The fundraising campaign for Espaço Pronto project is an invitation for companies and individuals to be part of this transformation. Each contribution will help equip a structure that will benefit thousands of children and adolescents every year.

“More than inaugurating a new hospital, we are building a fairer and healthier future for Brazilian childhood. And we need the union of the whole society to make this dream come true,” says the Hospital’s executive director, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.
