Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital has joined the 227 Agenda, a movement that seeks to place the rights of children and adolescents at the center of political discussions. Formed by 466 civil society organizations from all over Brazil, the movement has drawn up a document containing guidelines for a municipal administration committed to children and adolescents. In Curitiba, representatives of Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital and Pastoral da Crian\u00e7a<\/em> are delivering this document to candidates running for mayor, seeking their commitment to this agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 227 Agenda is a nonpartisan and plural movement that advocates that the actions of the federal government and municipal administrations be based on the absolute priority of the rights of children and adolescents. The name is inspired by the words of article 227 of the Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988<\/a> (in this link, content available only in Portuguese), which determines that the family, society and the State have the duty to ensure the rights of children and adolescents as an absolute priority under any circumstances. The same principles are incorporated by the Child and Adolescent Statute (known as ECA), including the privileged allocation of resources, and the Legal Framework for Early Childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Action and commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document \u201cAbsolute Priority in the 2024 Elections: Guidelines for a Municipal Administration Committed to Children and Adolescents\u201d<\/a> (in this link, content also available in Portuguese), which is being delivered to candidates for mayors across the country, unifies guidelines in 22 strategic areas for the realization of the rights of this public. The topics cover health, nutrition, education, family and community life, combating violence, racial equality, access to justice, climate change, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The movement also advocates reviewing the municipal administrative structure and management mechanisms to prioritize this age group. In this sense, it suggests the creation of an intersectoral municipal body and an exclusive and discriminated budget for children and adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe defense of human and social rights begins with the recognition that each child must be treated as a full human being, with equal rights to everyone else. The 227 Agenda reinforces the importance of placing the rights of children and adolescents at the center of public policies, in line with the ECA, which has the right to life and health as its main rights.
