Agreement involves acquisition of cutting-edge technology for the laboratory sector, development of research in the microbiological area and consultancy for implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in three more Brazilian hospitals
The Pequeno Príncipe Complex has established a partnership with bioMérieux, a global leader in in vitro diagnostics (systems, reagents, software and services), especially for infectious diseases. The cooperation includes the acquisition of new equipment, supplies and software for increasingly faster and more accurate tests and the expansion of studies using avant-garde technology in the area of antimicrobials.
The company will provide Pequeno Príncipe with a complete platform of microbiological solutions for performing blood cultures and antibiograms on blood samples. Along with this, it is coupled with an innovative technology known as Virtuo®, which has the capacity to advance blood culture results by up to four hours. Knowing the causative agent of an infection early allows the healthcare team to start treatment with the correct medication in less time, favoring the control of sepsis cases and, consequently, saving lives.
Another innovation involved in the partnership is the R.E.A.L. software – a microbiological management system that will be integrated into the Hospital environment and will allow the centralization and management of epidemiological information through various equipment, speeding up the release of test results with assertiveness and quality, supporting the decisions of the medical team.
This technology will support the development of research in the area of antimicrobials. The objective is to use the technological solutions of the world leader in diagnostics for the Pequeno Príncipe Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, in order to contribute and further enhance the software in terms of efficiency and accuracy to support clinical decision-making and, as a result, increase safe and assertive patient care.
In addition, the partnership includes consulting services from Pequeno Príncipe to implement the antimicrobial management model in three additional Brazilian hospitals. Nationally recognized, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program was created at the Hospital in 2013 and replicated in 15 large healthcare institutions throughout Brazil. The initiative involves the expertise of clinical pharmacists to assist physicians in managing antibiotic use, promoting coordination with other members of the healthcare team and reducing the use of and resistance to these drugs.
The deputy technical director of Quality and Clinical Research at Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, Fábio de Araújo Motta, emphasized the benefits of the partnership for healthcare, education and science. “We are very happy and excited about this partnership, to use research as a means to bring the microbiology team even closer to healthcare and to define actions in both the clinical area and also from an educational and data management perspective, to add even more value to this program that is so important for Pequeno Príncipe and for public health.”
