Event that mobilizes support for the cause of children and youth health will be attended by Bruno Gagliasso, Giovanna Ewbank, Toni Garrido and chefs Claude Troisgros, Manu Buffara, Rafa Costa e Silva and Felipe Bronze
The Pequeno Príncipe Gala is now in its 15th edition, reaffirming its purpose of supporting the assistance and research activities of Pequeno Príncipe to contribute to the challenge and global goal of reducing infant mortality. The event will be held next Monday, September 30, at Casa Bisutti, in São Paulo, starting at 7 p.m. During the evening, Pequeno Príncipe will launch its endowment fund, Futurin, which aims to raise funds to ensure the organization’s sustainability.
“This is will be another meeting to celebrate the life and health of our children. And we will launch our endowment fund to ensure that, in the future, Pequeno Príncipe will continue to care for the boys and girls of Brazil with the technical excellence and humanization that they all deserve,” emphasizes the executive director of Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.
Bruno Gagliasso and Giovanna Ewbank will be the masters of ceremony and will guide guests through the evening, which will culminate in dinner. Curated by the event’s patron, chef Claude Troisgros, chefs Manu Buffara, Rafa Costa e Silva and Felipe Bronze will prepare an exquisite and exclusive menu.
An auction featuring a variety of items, including Pelé memorabilia, will be another opportunity for participants to support the cause of child and youth health. The event will be closed with a vibrant concert by singer Toni Garrido.
Supporters and honorees
The Gala will feature a special moment to recognize great names in philanthropy and science. The event will honor Ana Maria Igel, a Pequeno Príncipe supporter, and the couple José Luiz Setúbal and Sandra Mutarelli Setúbal, from the José Luiz Egydio Setúbal Foundation.
Daniele Giacomazzi Behring and Amalia Spinardi Thompson Motta are the philanthropic supporters of this edition, which has Many Tigre Elache, Marjorie Geiger Hauser and Sylvia Brasil Coutinho as the patronesses.
“Children’s health is experiencing an ongoing and invisible tragedy. Today, in Brazil, for every three babies up to 1-year-old who die, two could be saved with qualified healthcare. Health needs to be on the agenda, as the numbers are challenging. Counting on society’s support is essential to improving these indicators,” points out the Hospital’s executive director.
Challenges, goals and looking to the future
The goal of this edition of the Gala is to raise US$ 300,000, which will be invested in Futurin, the endowment fund that Pequeno Príncipe is launching, with a view to ensuring the sustainability of its mission. The proceeds will also be used for assistance and research activities developed at Pequeno Príncipe, which allocates 60% of its capacity to serving patients of the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS, abbreviation in Portuguese).
Caring for these patients is challenging from a financial point of view, because for every US$ 20 spent on treating each child, the SUS transfers an average of US$ 11.38 to the Hospital. In other words, the deficit is 43% for each treatment provided.
Scientific research in Brazil receives truly little incentive or funding. While the average investment in science by developed countries is around 3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in Brazil it is less than 1.2%. Pequeno Príncipe invests in this sector because it believes that science is the way to find new ways to diagnose and treat complex childhood diseases, contributing to reducing child and adolescent mortality.
The performance of these two activities – providing services to the SUS and investing in research – has generated a significant financial imbalance for Pequeno Príncipe. In 2023, the institution closed the year with a deficit of over US$ 14 million in assistance, without considering the resources raised. Support from society has been essential to minimize this impact.
