Pequeno Príncipe Gala 2024 will be held in São Paulo

Dinner with the participation of the patronesses marked the launch of the event, scheduled for September 30

On September 30, Pequeno Príncipe will hold the 15th edition of Pequeno Príncipe Gala, an event that was created to unite haute cuisine and solidarity. The party will be held at Casa Bisutti, in São Paulo, and will raise funds for health assistance and research activities carried out at the institution.

As in all other editions, Pequeno Príncipe Gala 2024 will have chef Claude Troisgros as its patron and curator. The chef will prepare an exclusive menu for the occasion, alongside renowned chefs Rafa Costa e Silva, Felipe Bronze and Manu Buffara.

Daniele Giacomazzi Behring and Amalia Spinardi Thompson Motta are the philanthropic sponsors of this edition, whose patronesses are Many Tigre Elache, Marjorie Geiger Hauser and Sylvia Brasil Coutinho. They attended the Gala launch dinner, held in early June. The meeting was attended by a small and select group of participants, who were invited to join the initiative’s Philanthropic Committee.

“Children’s health is facing a continuous and invisible tragedy. Today, in Brazil, of every three babies up to 1-year-old who die, two could be saved with qualified healthcare. Health needs to be on the agenda. We have everything to improve, because the numbers are challenging. Counting on your support is essential for us to improve these indicators,” emphasized the Hospital’s executive director, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.

Challenges and goal

The goal of this edition of the Gala is to raise US$ 300,000, which will be applied to assistance and research activities carried out in Pequeno Príncipe. At the Hospital, 60% of care is provided to patients in the Brazilian Public Health System (known as SUS), which generates a significant deficit for the institution, as for every US$ 20 spent on treating these patients, the SUS passes on only US$ 11.20 to the Hospital. In other words, the average deficit is 43% for each service provided.

Scientific research in Brazil, on the other hand, receives very little incentive and funding. While the average investment in science made by developed countries in the area is around 3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in Brazil the investment is under 1.2%. Pequeno Príncipe invests in this area because it believes that science is the way to find new ways to diagnose and treat complex childhood illnesses, identifying new possibilities to reduce mortality in children and adolescents.

These two activities – healthcare provided by the SUS and investing in research – has generated an important financial challenge for Pequeno Príncipe. In 2023, the institution ended the year with a deficit of more than US$ 14 million. Society’s support has been essential to minimize this impact and continue offering all children and adolescents an opportunity for a healthy life.
