The recognized work highlights the Hospital’s role in micro-costing hospitalized patients with suspected intracranial hypertension
Pequeno Príncipe was highlighted at the XIV Brazilian Conference of Hospital Pharmacy (SBRAFH, abbreviation in Portuguese), the biggest pharmaceutical event in Brazil and in Latin America, held earlier this month of June. With six works registered, the institution competed with another 544 abstracts by health services from all over the country and won first place with the research “Pharmacist in the Health Value Office: study of micro-costing of hospitalized patients with suspected intracranial hypertension”.
Developed by the team from the Clinical Research Center and the Office of Value Management of Pequeno Príncipe, the study came to the conclusion that the costs of hospitalization reimbursed by the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS, abbreviation in Portuguese) or by health insurance plans for the investigation of intracranial hypertension serve as a basis for the manager analyze the financial sustainability and for the distribution of resources and prospect negotiations based on values with the operators. It was also concluded that there are few pharmacists with expertise in economic analysis who work in hospital care, which highlights an area to be explored by these professionals.

Another abstract submitted by the Hospital, which was among the ten best papers selected, was “Cost-effectiveness analysis of the accelerated implementation of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program directed by Clinical Pharmacy to avoid acute kidney injury associated with vancomycin: SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) perspective”. This work details how incorporating the vankokinemia test, managed by the stewardship’s clinical pharmacist, can provide more effective antibiotic therapy without causing acute kidney injury, avoiding costs for the SUS.
In addition to these recognitions, Pequeno Príncipe professionals represented the institution through lectures on “Stewardship antimicrobial: from implantation to results”; “Stewardship in antifungal therapy: where to start and how to do it”; and “Innovation in health for the institution’s sustainability”.
