Parliamentary front for the rights of children and adolescents is relaunched
Made up by state representatives and senators from various parties, its objective is to guarantee the protection and improvement of the rights of Brazilian boys and girls
On April 26, the Joint Parliamentary Front for the Promotion and Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents was relaunched. With a cross-party composition, bringing together representatives and senators, the front aims to guarantee the protection and improvement of the rights of children and adolescents.
Full priority
One of the references for the work of the parliamentary front will be the Country Plan for Children and Adolescents, a document prepared by the 227 Agenda movement, of which Pequeno Príncipe Hospital is a signatory, along with more than 300 institutions. This document brings 137 proposals for public policies, formulated by civil society organizations, so that children and adolescents can be at the center of the construction of a more just, prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable country.
For the health area, there are eight proposals:
- care for pregnant women, ensuring adequate prenatal care;
- expansion of neonatal care units;
- expansion of vaccination coverage;
- strengthening of primary care, expanding the Family Health Strategy;
- access to and follow-up of treatment for rare diseases in the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS, abbreviation in Portuguese);
- promotion of mental health in educational networks;
- expansion of the supply of medicines in the SUS;
- reduction of pregnancy rates and sexually transmitted diseases in adolescence.
Rights are not privileges
“We believe that rights are not privileges. All children and adolescents have the right to a healthy life, so that they can fully develop. At our Hospital, we work to ensure the right to a healthy life and also the right to education, culture, leisure, and family life. It is by guaranteeing rights that we will achieve a fair and sustainable development for all,” advocates the executive director of the Hospital, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.
