The Emergency Room of Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital, which is devoted to the healthcare of patients assisted by the Public Health System (SUS), has been totally remodeled and extended. The work, which took six months, was concluded in the end of May and had a total cost of US$ 300,000, with US$ 272,000 being given to the Hospital by companies and individuals through tax benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the expansion, the Emergency Room gained an additional 138m\u00b2, for a total of 484m\u00b2. It was also possible to set up more consulting rooms: now the Emergency Room counts on ten spaces to serve patients. The waiting area was readjusted, as well as the area where the observation beds are located, which gained more space and adapted bathrooms. With the changes, the patients who wait and are treated there gain more privacy and comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe devote 70% of our capacity to the assistance of Public Health System patients, and for us it is a great joy to be able to improve the facilities for this part of the population. We believe that rights are not privileges and that all children have the right to receive the best care possible. With the support of individuals and companies, we are managing to promote constant improvements in our structure,\u201d says the executive director of the Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the improvement in the space for the patients, \u201cthe new facility has an architecture designed for professional formation: Pediatrics residents and students from other medical schools will also learn at the site by observing the assistance given,\u201d explains the technical director of the Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe, Donizetti Dimer Giamberardino Filho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Emergency Service of the Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe Hospital for Public Health System patients serves, on average, around 25,000 children and adolescents a year. In 2020, because of the pandemic, the number had a significant reduction, dropping to around 12,000. In the first five months of 2021, approximately 8,000 consultations have already been performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be assisted at the Public Health System Emergency Room of Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe, the patient must be referred by the basic health units or by the emergency rooms of the Public Health System (UBS \u2013 Health Basic Units and UPAs \u2013 Public Emergency Rooms).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For another 100 years<\/strong>
The renovation of the Public Health System Emergency Room is part of the project \u201cFor another 100 years: renovation of the Pequeno Pr\u00edncipe facilities\u201d. Approved by the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Comtiba) and eligible to receive donations through tax benefits from individuals and companies through the Fund for Childhood and Adolescence (FIA), the project provides for the renovation of the building structure of the Hospital, to benefit the quality of care, movement and safety of patients, families, professionals, students and visitors, improving the conditions for health services in the present and ensuring the longevity of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other actions planned in this project are the replacement of the roof of the historic building (C\u00e9sar Pernetta Children\u2019s Hospital); construction of an access ramp from the first floor to the sixth floor; renovation of three internal service elevators; and revitalization of the central patio with accessible ramps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
