The Pequeno Príncipe Gala celebrates ten years of social mobilization

Throughout one decade, the event has already raised more than US$ 4.4 million for the assistance and research activities of the institution

The 2021 edition of the Pequeno Príncipe Gala celebrates ten years of the event, which has consolidated itself as an important mobilization action for society on behalf of children’s health. Just like last year, because of the pandemic, the event will be broadcasted online on the Pequeno Príncipe’s YouTube channel on October 22nd, at 7 p.m.

“In this first decade of the Gala, we held 12 editions of the event in five cities in three countries. We had more than three thousand guests and 27 chefs from six nationalities. We raised about US$ 4.4 million, funds that were totally invested in our assistance and research activities. Today, the Pequeno Príncipe Gala plays a relevant role in the financial sustainability of our institution, strengthening the culture of donation,” highlights the executive director of the Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro.

With the funds raised, the supporters of the Gala have contributed so that the Hospital could serve more than three million outpatients over the last decade, six million exams, more than 222 thousand hospitalizations, 188 thousand surgeries and almost two thousand solid organ, tissue and bone marrow transplants, and heart valves.

In the research area, Gala’s resources help to enable more than one hundred projects that are currently underway. The Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute celebrated 15 years old in 2021, reaching the milestone of 128 trained professionals, 86 of whom are masters and 42 doctors, and more than 350 scientific articles published in high impact journals, such as Nature, Science, Cancers, and Cell, among many other indicators of success.

“The funds raised through the Gala are investments that really generate social impact, contributing to the advancement of health indicators for children and adolescents in Brazil. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the ESG agenda, the research focuses on health, education, and environmental issues, with significant scientific advances and innovation,” emphasizes Ety.

2021 Edition
The “Pequeno Príncipe Gala 2021 – 10 years:  celebrating science and life” will bring to the audience moments of great emotion by sharing stories of overcoming of the children and adolescents assisted at the Hospital and also benefited by the studies of the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute. “By telling these stories, we want people to get to know the lives that they are really transforming,” explains Ety.

The event will also have as honorees the scientific director of the Institute, Bonald Cavalcante de Figueiredo, and the couple Fernanda Valente and Sérgio Gordilho, who have been developing an important work in the communication of social causes.

Chef Claude Troisgros, the event’s patron, will be joined by chef Daniel Boulud, teaching how to prepare very special recipes at home.
