The history of the Pequeno Príncipe is one bond to the teaching of Pediatrics in Paraná. This interaction became formal in 1935, through an agreement with the Medical School. During this time, it has established many partnerships with teaching institutions, participating in the qualification and improvement of the many generations of health professionals. It was one of the pioneers in the proximity between the hospital and the patient’s family and in the health education actions.
The professional formation has always been based on the conscious necessity of aggregating learning, critical reflection about work and clinical capacity of finding solutions for the collective health, recognizing contexts and life stories, and assuring whole assistance to the people assisted. This formation is possible through the following ways:
The medical residence program is offered since the 1970’s. The Pediatrics, Orthopedics, and Pediatric Surgery areas are acknowledged by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. Every year, around 50 residents are benefited by the program. The Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hemato-Oncology, Neurology, Newly Born ICU, and General ICU are acknowledged by the Scientific Societies of the Specialties related.
Every year the Pequeno Príncipe Hospital receives around ten interns in the Urology, Cardiac Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Neurosurgery sections.
